Welcome Back

We hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Spring Break! We would like to welcome everyone back to our fourth and final quarter of the 2018-2019 School Year. As you know, school resumes on Monday, April 8th.  We will have a modified day with 1st through 6th grade students attending from 8:45 a.m. to 1:55 p.m. and Kindergarten students attending from 8:45 a.m. to 1:25 p.m.  We know this quarter will be a busy and exciting quarter at Hedenkamp! A huge thank you to everyone that attended the Spring Parent Teacher Conferences before the break! We value our partnership with our parents!

PARENT Meeting

Please join us for our parent meeting scheduled for Wednesday, April 17 @ 5:30 p.m.  We will share important information about end of year testing.  We will share details about all assessments that will be administered to K-6 students at Hedenkamp.  We will also share ways you may support your students during testing.  Please plan on attending this important parent meeting.

Toon Con 2019

Our fourth annual Toon Con is scheduled for Friday, April 26th from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm.  We hope you will join us for this exciting event for the entire family.  Students will showcase their Visual and Performing Arts talents. You don’t want to miss this amazing event!  Please mark your calendars now and join us on April 26th!

SPEECH CONTEST

Our students blew us away at our annual Speech Contest.  We are so proud of all of our student speakers.  They were poised and articulate as they delivered their speeches to their fellow Huskies! Congratulations!  Audrey, Andrew, and Kayla will go on to represent our school at the district competition! Way to Go!

DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

Our school district will hold a Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, February 13th at 6:00 pm.  Our own VAPA Music Teacher, Brad Collins, will be honored at the meeting.  Congratulations Mr. Collins!  Also, the Board will conduct a Public Hearing on revisions to the Local Control Accountability Plan.  They want to hear your input, please consider attending.  For more information, please review the agenda: Agenda

ELAC AND SSC MEETING

We will hold a joint ELAC and SSC meeting this month.  The meeting will be held on Thursday, February 14th at 8:15 am in our MPR.  We will discuss the Local Control Accountability Plan and how you can share your input.  All parents are strongly encouraged to join us.  We hope to see you there.

TK AND KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

kindergarten_registration2Please let your friends and neighbors know that transitional kindergarten and kindergarten registration packets are available now.  Registration packets will be accepted on Wednesday, February 20th.  Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions regarding registration for the 2019 -2020 school year.

CREATE-A-TILE

Join us for a night of family fun! Create a tile to be displayed on Hedenkamp pillars for years to come.

  • WHEN: Wednesday, February 20, 2019
  • WHERE: MPR (Multi-Purpose Room)
  • TIME: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • COST: $15/tile PTA Member, $18/tile for Non-PTA Members

Extended!! Tiles will be sold online only, and will be sold through the 15th! There will be no refunds.

SINGLE SIGN ON

All students must use their Microsoft Single Sign On (SSO) in order to access Achieve3000, Smarty Ants, and ThinkCentral (Go Math!) programs form now on.  We have updated the links on our blog to direct students to the the Microsoft Single Sign On link for the district.  If you receive an error message when attempting to login, you may need to clear your web browser history. Google Chrome is the preferred browser to use for these programs.   If you need assistance accessing any of our programs, please let us know. YEARBOOKS

2018 – 2019 Yearbooks will be available for purchase on our webstore beginning February 10th to March 15th.

Yearbooks cost $35 and a personalized version is available for $40. They will be delivered at the end of the year. A limited amount of yearbooks will be available for purchase at the end of the year for $50.

They will only be available through the website and there are no refunds.

If you have pictures of any school events like field trips, dances, Husky Howl, etc. for the 2018-2019 school year that you think might be good for the yearbook, please email it to historian@huskiespta.com. Please include your child’s or children’s name, grade, and their teacher’s name. You just might see it in the yearbook!

Mother-Son Dance

The Mother-Son Dance is January 25 at 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in Hedenkamp’s MPR. Tickets will be available on the Hedenkamp PTA webstore beginning January 13th to the 20th. Tickets are $15/per person so you will need to buy one ticket for each individual. For example, if a mother and son are attending the dance, you will need to buy two tickets. If the mother is bringing two sons, you will need to buy three. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

This is a very popular event and there are only 400 tickets available. Make sure you act early if you want to participate.

There are no refunds for this event.

Change of Clothes

Kids slip in the mud or spill their lunch and need a change of clothes. Hedenkamp is in need of donations of new underwear and socks, and gently used outfits for when these little accidents happen.

We are requesting gently used outfits (one assembled washed outfit put in a gallon bag with the size marked on the outside). Please sign up for a donated size here.

Additionally, underwear and socks can be purchased from the following Amazon wishlist or at a store of your choice.

WE ARE THANKFUL FOR OUR HUSKIES

images-1We have the best students, staff, and families at Hedenkamp! Thank you all for making Hedenkamp such a wonderful place to be.  We are also appreciative of all our families that donated canned goods. We were amazed by the amount we collected, your generosity will make a difference for families in need this holiday season.  We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your families and look forward to seeing you all back at school tomorrow, November 26,  for a full day of learning!

HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE

toy-drive-psa1The Chula Vista Police Activities League (CV PAL) was organized in 1992 to create and provide activities for all youth in our community. CV PAL especially targets less fortunate and “at risk” youth. CV PAL is a community based non-profit organization operated from the Chula Vista Police Department. During the holidays, CV PAL partners with the Chula Vista Welfare Council and the Chula Vista Elementary School District for the annual toy drive. CV PAL delivers toys and food to approximately 300 families and 900 children. Each family is  provided a box of food, a gift card for groceries, and a toy for each child. We are collecting toys at Hedenkamp for this worthy cause until November 30th!

NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN REMINDERS

Thank you for your patience and understanding with our new traffic pattern. As you know, SanDag construction is continuing along East Palomar.  As we have been sharing on our blog for the past month, traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction in front of Hedenkamp.  We expect traffic to be reduced to one lane in each direction for approximately three months.  The new traffic pattern has inctrased congestion in the area near our school.  In order to help alleviate some of the delays we have implemented a new traffic pattern for pick up and drop off  and  have also adjusted our bus schedule slightly. Parents and staff should only enter and exit the school via Brashear Place. The Kindergarten loop on East Palomar is closed and used for staff parking only. Traffic flows in a single file line into the parking lot, through the loading zone, around the bus loop, and back onto Brashear Place to exit. The loading zone has been extended through the bus loop. No students are allowed to load/unload along East Palomar Street. Please know you will be ticketed if you attempt to drop off or pick up on East Palomar.  We also have an “Express Lane” that parents can utilize once their student(s) are unloaded/loaded. Parents may also utilize cul-de-sacs directly east and west of the school for loading and unloading purposes.  If you will pick up your child in the main drop off and pick up area all students will wait in the area near the bus loop.
To mitigate risks, our school buses arrive at Hedenkamp Elementary earlier in the morning and later in the afternoon, avoiding parent traffic in the bus loop. In the afternoon the buses stage in the neighborhood to the west of Hedenkamp Elementary and wait for the all clear from the school. We are providing a 15-minute window for afternoon drop off as each day’s traffic flow will vary.
Temporary Construction Bus Schedule:
  • Santa Rita West & Montera Street (Wisteria Park)
    • Pick Up ~ 8:05 AM
    • Drop Off (M-TH) ~ 3:50 PM  – 4:05 PM (ETA for Regular Days)
    • Drop Off (F) ~ 2:30 PM – 2:45 PM (ETA for Minimum Days)
We have additional supervision for our bus riders before and after school given our adjusted bus schedule.
We ask everyone to have extra patience and drive cautiously.  Please allow for extra time.  Student Safety is a priority. We have additional cones in place in the loading and unloading area, we ask that all drivers stay within the cones so we are able to keep everyone safe.
